Kesar Mangoes known to be, the best variety and referred to as the “Queen of Mangoes” .The variety looks like Alphonso but is unique in taste . Apart from having an attractive color, it also has a unique shelf life which is longer than that of the Alphonso. Kesar Mangos are cultivated and produced in Gujarat, Western India. This Indian variety is a mild flavored, firm fleshed mango which can range from purple to yellow skin with an oblong shape and is medium in size.
It derives its name from village between Lucknow and Malihabad where it was originated as a superior chance seedling. Size small to medium, oblong, ventral, shoulder higher than dorsal, beak and sinus absent, color yellow when ripe, skin thin, pulp fiber less, flesh firm, very sweet, flavor nice. Stone very small, oblong, variety good to very best, bearing heavy, mid season (July), keeping and peeling quality good in the 18th century, the Dasheri mango first appeared in the gardens of Nawab of Lucknow. Since then numbers of Dasheri plants have been produced and planted throughout India.
